Calling all Scrapping Friends!

I found this picture in one of the many boxes of photos I snagged from my parents' home last Thanksgiving. I have yet to actually make any pages with any of these old, one-of-a-kind photos because "I don't want to ruin them". I have some nebulous ideas about what I want to do with this one, but I would like to hear from you some suggestions for titles, colors, point me to a really cool sketch, techniques for adhering it, etc. And in appreciation for your help, I will send you a hand-made accordion mini-album. Leave a comment with your suggestions and at the end of September, I'll draw a name for this little RAK. Oh yes, the actual photo is about 5x7.

This is a picture of me and my little brother at my grandparents' home. I was about three, he was less than a year. What can you make of this?

Thanks for looking and thank you for your inspiration!

Well, as far as adhering, I'd use the old-style photo corners (or some modern version thereof) and NOT put any adhesive on the pic/s. I love to use dark, but bright, colors with these older photos, to offset them and make them stand out. What an awesome photo it is!!!

I would definitely check out My Minds Eye for papers to use with this photo. I love MME for older photos but that is just my opinion. I like Chris' idea of using photo corners instead of adhesive although I have never done that ;)

Great photo!

Love the picture!! As for the picture itself and adhering it, I'd personally scan and print another copy. It's either that or use photo corners for it!

You might want to try some of Webster's Pages as they have some great stuff for older pics and I also like some of the Basic Grey.

I'd find a story in this whether it relates to a memory of your brother or pets or whatever, but start there!

Good luck and have fun!

great photo!!! I also just received a bunch of photos from MIL while I was visiting....I scanned them all first and I will be using some heritage papers that I found thru Hot off the press.
Also, I will be placing the originals in an acid free photo album without any adhesive stuff etc.....
Titles: puppy love....love taps.....for the love of puppies.....
Have fun

I would recommend a couple of things...
1. Use photo corners. There are so many styles to choose from! I just did a book last year with all heritage and it came out cute without using any adhesive on the pages.
2. If you are worried - scan and burn the pics to a disk. That way, if something happens, you still have the pictures on backup.
3. I love the look of the newer papers with B&W pictures. Basic Grey's new lines are fabulous for a heritage feel with the traditional heritage look. Cosmo Cricket is also a good choice. OR look for the color schemes that were popular at the time of the picture (like the 70s were orange, avocado, gold, and brown...) to emphasize the look of the era.
4. Don't forget - just because they are heritage pages, you don't have to use heritage themes. Scrap the way you currently do - with brighter colors and such - and journal the memories instead... this is cool if you are going to mix these pages in with current "today" pages for your albums...

Hope this helps!!

Great pic! So much fun! I have LARGE amounts of vintage pics and have only scratched the surface of getting them scrapped. The suggestion above are great! I usually use color to offset the B&W of the pics and also scan them first and sometimes scrap that instead of the original. Also, instead of photo corners, you can make a mat for the pic and use a corner punch such as the wrought iron punch to hold the pic on the mat and then use adhesive to attach the mat to the page. Would love to see your finished page!

What great suggestions!!! I agree with the photo corners. Canson makes some really good ones that are inexpensive and self-adhesive. I find mine at AC Moore. LMK if you need me to pick some up for you! They come in black and gold. As for the papers, My Mind's Eye really works well with heritage pictures. Be sure to take your photos with you to the store when you shop! Believe it or not, it WILL make a difference! I would use the more muted or distressed patterns with this one. And depending on the theme, you could even make it a pet-themed page. DEFINITELY journal something on the page! And do be sure to scan the pic and/or the LO when it's finished. That's too precious to lose!

What a great find Karen!! Love the phto. I would alter it too much. I would just scan it and use it as is. It adds to the character and genre. I would use muted tones in my paper choices such as Crate, older Cosmo Mricket, and my new fav... Webster's pages. Oh... melissa Frances has fab vintage labels, papers and lace ribbon which would look incrediable! And.... lots of inking!!

What a great photo Karen. I use my old photos and will sometimes make a scan copy if it includes someone else in the photo. For a title how about, We are in Dog Heaven or My Dog Tickles Me, A Dog Life, Snips and snails, and puppy dogs tails and Sugar and spice and all things nice.

I don't think I would stick with any one type of paper but play around with what I really like.

Can't wait to see what you do with it.
